UAE Schools Switch to Remote Learning Amid Renewed Security Concerns

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates announced on Monday that schools across the country will switch to distance learning following renewed attacks attributed to Iran, despite an ongoing ceasefire between Tehran and Washington.

In a statement, the Education Ministry said remote education will be implemented from May 5 to May 8 across all nurseries, as well as public and private schools nationwide.

The decision applies to both students and education sector staff, including teachers and administrative personnel.

It said the measure was introduced “to ensure the safety of students and all those working in the education sector.”

The ministry added that the situation will be reviewed on May 8 to determine whether remote learning needs to continue.

The announcement followed statements from the UAE Defense Ministry saying that air defense systems had intercepted ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones targeting Emirati territory.

Earlier on Monday, a major fire erupted at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, a key energy facility on the UAE’s eastern coast, after it was struck by a drone reportedly launched from Iran.

Authorities in Fujairah said three Indian nationals sustained moderate injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
