US Army Secretary Vows to Stay Amid Tensions with Defense Secretary

(MENAFN) US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has indicated he intends to remain in his role at the Pentagon, brushing off speculation about stepping down despite reported tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as stated by reports on Tuesday.

The administration of President Donald Trump has commended Driscoll’s leadership of the Army during the ongoing US-Israeli conflict involving Iran, which has continued for over a month, according to reports.

In remarks cited by reports, Driscoll reaffirmed his commitment to his position, stating, "Serving under President Trump has been the honor of a lifetime and I remain laser focused on providing America with the strongest land fighting force the world has ever seen. I have no plans to depart or resign as the Secretary of the Army."

His statement comes shortly after two high-ranking military officials were removed from their posts following disagreements with Hegseth. Reports have also suggested that the defense secretary has shown interest in assuming control over the Army leadership position.

According to reports, friction between Driscoll and Hegseth has centered on several policy matters, including the defense secretary’s efforts to halt promotions for a number of Army officers. Sources cited in reports indicate growing uncertainty within military circles over how long both officials can continue working alongside each other given the ongoing disputes.
