China to Send Emergency Aid to Middle East Amid Conflict

(MENAFN) China announced on Tuesday that it will provide emergency humanitarian support to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq as the Middle East continues to experience intense hostilities, with US and Israeli joint attacks on Tehran ongoing since February 28, according to reports.

Beijing emphasized its commitment to a “shared community of humanity and humanitarian spirit,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said.

“The ongoing conflict inflicted an excruciating humanitarian disaster on the people of countries in the region, including in Iran. China deeply sympathizes with the people in the relevant countries, and our hearts go out to them,” Lin added.

He further stated, “China decided to offer emergency humanitarian assistance to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq in the hope of easing the humanitarian difficulties facing the people.”

Previously, Beijing announced that the Red Cross Society of China would provide $200,000 in emergency support to the Iranian Red Crescent to “comfort” families of over 165 schoolgirls killed in an airstrike on Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab on February 28, the same day the US and Israel launched their joint attacks.

Lin said China “will continue to do its best to urge peace, work for early restoration of regional peace and stability, and prevent the humanitarian crisis from further spreading,” according to reports.

Hostilities in the region have escalated since the US and Israel began their joint strikes on Iran, resulting in roughly 1,300 deaths, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation, according to reports.
