EU Ends Restrictive Measures Against Kosovo
"We welcome today’s confirmation by the Commission that this decision has now been fully implemented," Vjosa Osmani wrote on social media.
In December, the European Commission had announced that all restrictive measures imposed since 2023 would be removed and related financial aid released. These measures were initially introduced in June 2023 after tensions erupted in northern Kosovo, where ethnic Serbs boycotted the April 2023 elections that resulted in ethnic Albanian mayors taking office.
The president expressed gratitude to the commission and international partners for their support in resolving the issue, calling it a step that “resulted in lifting the unjust measures that negatively affected the lives of the people of Kosovo.”
"Kosovo remains committed to working closely with the EU and moving forward on our path toward EU candidate status," she added.
