UK, France Outline Plans for Troop Deployment in Ukraine

(MENAFN) The leaders of the United Kingdom and France have declared their readiness to send forces to Ukraine if Kiev secures a peace settlement with Russia, even though Moscow has firmly rejected the presence of NATO troops under any circumstances.

The announcement was made on Tuesday during a gathering of the so-called ‘coalition of the willing’ in Paris. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the three nations had endorsed a “Declaration of Intent” to deploy forces “in the event of a peace deal.” He described the accord as “a vital part of our iron-cast commitment,” emphasizing that it would establish a legal framework for British, French, and allied forces to operate on Ukrainian territory.

Starmer explained that “following a ceasefire,” Britain and France would set up “military hubs” across Ukraine, construct secure facilities for arms and equipment, and participate in US-led oversight of the truce.

French President Emmanuel Macron characterized the planned contingent as a non-combat force numbering “potentially thousands” of soldiers, underscoring that they would be positioned “a long way behind the contact line.”
