Trump Blames Biden for Russia Conflict Amid Peace Talks
"Ukraine 'leadership' has expressed zero gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
He asserted that the war "would have never happened" under "strong and proper US and Ukrainian leadership" and claimed it erupted during "the Sleepy Joe Biden Administration."
Trump further argued that if the 2020 election had not been "rigged and stolen," the Ukraine-Russia war would have been avoided, suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin "would never have attacked."
He described the situation as inheriting "a war that should have never happened, a war that is a loser for everyone, especially the millions of people that have so needlessly died."
These remarks coincided with meetings in Geneva between senior US and Ukrainian officials, who are discussing a 28-point US peace initiative.
The preliminary plan reportedly asks Ukraine to relinquish more territory to Russia, restrict its military capabilities, and formally renounce NATO membership.
Trump, noting that the proposal would not constitute his "final offer," set a deadline for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to respond by Thursday.
Zelenskyy expressed the difficult position he faces, stating it is a choice between "loss of our dignity or the risk of losing a key partner."
