Trump praises UN Security Council's approval of Gaza peace force
"Congratulations to the World on the incredible Vote of the United Nations Security Council, just moments ago, acknowledging and endorsing the board of peace, which will be chaired by me, and include the most powerful and respected Leaders throughout the World," Trump wrote on Truth Social. The vote passed with 13 members in support as Russia and China abstained.
He said, "This will go down as one of the biggest approvals in the History of the United Nations, will lead to further Peace all over the World, and is a moment of true Historic proportion!"
Trump voiced gratitude to the UN, the 15-member Council and the states that strongly supported the measure, including Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Türkiye and Jordan.
He added that "The members of the Board, and many more exciting announcements, will be made in the coming weeks." Israel and Hamas had last month agreed to the first phase of Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan — a ceasefire ending the two-year conflict and an arrangement for hostage releases.
The resolution notes that the Board of Peace and International Stabilization Force's "presences authorized by this resolution shall remain authorized until Dec. 31, 2027, subject to further action by the Council, and (that) any further reauthorization of the ISF be in full cooperation and coordination with Egypt and Israel and other Member States continuing to work with the ISF.”
