Poland Vows to Take Down Russian Aircrafts Breaching Its Airspace

(MENAFN) Poland's Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski issued a stern warning at a UN Security Council emergency meeting on Monday, declaring that the country would take immediate action against any Russian aircraft or missile entering its airspace.

Sikorski's remarks came amid rising tensions following Poland’s accusations earlier this month that Russia intentionally sent at least 19 drones into Polish airspace—a claim Moscow dismissed as "hysteria" from what it described as the "European party of war."

During the session, organized by NATO ally Estonia, which also accused Russia of airspace violations, Sikorski issued a direct warning to Moscow. "You have been warned," he said. “If another missile or aircraft enters our airspace without permission – either deliberately or by mistake – and gets shot down and the wreckage falls on NATO territory, please don’t come here to whine about it."

In response, Moscow vehemently rejected the allegations. Russian Deputy Ambassador to the UN Dmitry Polyansky criticized the meeting as a continuation of the "blame Russia for everything" narrative. “Neither Warsaw nor Brussels need the truth,” Polyansky said.

Polyansky went on to claim that the only verified damage from the alleged drone incursion was caused by a Polish missile launched from a NATO F-16, which struck a residential building. He further offered to engage in bilateral talks with Poland, but said Warsaw had failed to provide any concrete evidence that the drones were of Russian origin. Instead, Polyansky suggested that Poland was simply seeking to fuel "a new round of a Russophobic campaign."

Regarding Estonia’s accusations of Russian military aircraft breaching its airspace last week, Polyansky dismissed these claims as "Russophobic hysteria" emanating from Tallinn. “There is no proof,” he said, adding that Russia was always willing to take accusations seriously but needed clear evidence. He further criticized the EU’s narrative, alleging it was aimed at pushing US President Donald Trump into an "anti-Russian course" and undermining recent agreements between the Russian and American leaders.

The escalating tensions reflect the ongoing geopolitical struggle in the region, as NATO members continue to accuse Russia of aggressive actions in their airspace, while Moscow maintains its denial and counteraccusations.
