DNA Evidence Exposes Charlie Kirk’s Killer
(MENAFN) Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel announced on Monday that DNA evidence has connected Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, to the scene of last week’s deadly shooting.
“We have the DNA on the screwdriver that was found on the rooftop and the towel that the firearm was wrapped in,” Patel disclosed during an interview with media.
The rifle used in the attack is currently undergoing forensic analysis at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) labs in Maryland, the FBI director added.
Patel also revealed that Robinson’s family has informed investigators that he embraced "left-wing" beliefs, a conviction that intensified over recent years.
Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist and social media influencer, was shot in the neck during a public debate at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, resulting in his death.
Authorities detained the 22-year-old suspect approximately 33 hours after the shooting in Washington County, Utah, following tips from family members who recognized him from photos released by law enforcement.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox explained Friday that a relative of Robinson had contacted a family friend, who then reached out to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, relaying Robinson’s confession.
On Sunday, during an interview with media, Governor Cox said investigators’ interviews with Robinson’s friends and family highlighted a "leftist ideology" that sharply contrasted with the conservative views held by his family.
Though registered to vote, Robinson is listed as unaffiliated with any political party in state records and did not participate in the November presidential election—the first since he became eligible to vote. His parents, by contrast, are registered Republicans.
Officials are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting.
