Severe Torrential Rains Leave Two Dead in China

(MENAFN) Local authorities in Zhaotong, a mountainous city in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, confirmed by 6:40 p.m. Thursday that two of the five individuals who disappeared during severe torrential rains have been found dead.

Rescue teams continue their intensive search for the remaining three missing persons as operations push forward.

Since early Tuesday morning at 7 a.m., relentless heavy rainfall has battered most regions of Zhaotong City, causing significant disruptions across several counties, notably Zhenxiong, Weixin, and Yongshan.

In Weixin County’s Luobu Township, the intense flooding resulted in the destruction of two residential homes, exacerbating the crisis.

In response, Zhaotong officials have mobilized comprehensive rescue and emergency relief efforts. To date, over 7,200 residents have been safely evacuated from high-risk areas as of 7 p.m. Thursday, underscoring the urgency and scale of the ongoing disaster response.
