Putin unveils granddaughter speaking fluent Chinese
Speaking during a late-night Q&A session with international news agency leaders, Putin responded to a question from Fu Hua, head of China’s Xinhua News Agency, about expanding cultural ties between Russia and China. Fu referenced a previous comment from Putin that members of his family were learning Chinese.
Clarifying the remark, Putin said, “I was talking about my granddaughter. She has a tutor from Beijing and speaks fluent Chinese with her.”
He added that one of his daughters began learning Chinese in the early 2000s purely out of personal interest, hiring a private tutor to study the language.
Putin highlighted the growing academic exchange between the two nations, noting that over 50,000 Chinese students are currently studying in Russia, while more than 21,000 Russians are enrolled at institutions in China. He emphasized that direct cooperation between universities is helping to strengthen ties across various fields.
